On the day of Orthodox Christmas, an attack on the Prajd info center took place in Belgrade. The masked men forcibly broke the window, which did not happen for the first time. Let’s remember the attack that happened 5 years ago, when they succeeded in the same way, and after they tried several more times, but luckily didn’t succeed. This is a reminder to all LGBTIQ+ people in Serbia that they need to be careful every day of the year and that they are never completely safe, not even during the holidays.
Belgrade Pride points out that the attackers of the Pride Center have never been charged, despite the fact that footage of the attacks from surveillance cameras has always been available.
The attack on Belgrade pride is hate crime and an attempt to intimidate members of the LGBTIQ+ community. At Ljubljana Pride Association, we join Belgrade Pride’s requests to the Serbian police and the prosecutor’s office to take the attack seriously and take appropriate action against it! We expect that the Serbian government and the Ministry of Human Rights will speak out against violent acts and thus show support for the LGBTIQ+ community.
