Thursday, 1st July 2010 Neo-conservatism in GLBTIQ activism (round table) – 18.00-20.00 – Cafe Open
After nine months of the public debate around the proposal of the New Family Law it seems – if we paraphrase Johnny Symons, the author of the documentary movie Daddy and Papa -, that the most revolutionary act in the history of GLBTIQ activism in Slovenia, paradoxically, is entering the most traditional field: family field. Conformism, integration, assimilation, trivialization of identities, mimicry, approval of and sympathizing with conservative, religious concepts and institutions, fear of subversive and radical…have become a part of everyday life of GLBTIQ. Some are thus expressing their concern, stating the loss of emancipatory nature of the movement and with that the end of activism. These are the topics we plan to touch upon within this round table. |
