SUMMARY:Perspectives of Sustainable Prides and Festivals
DESCRIPTION:Perspectives of Sustainable Prides and Festivals\nPanel discussion\n________________\nEvent will be held in English. \nAt a time when society is becoming more aware of the impact that we have on the environment\, many organizations are also working towards a more sustainable future. Sustainable development comprises three pillars: environmental\, social\, and economic. How does the organization of major events or festivals integrate all of the three levels of sustainability? What is the practical experience of organizing different international festivals and events? Guest speakers will present their experiences with integrating sustainable practices in the organization and delivery of events.\n \nGuests: \n\nWendla Schaper\, activist\, Germany;\nMateja Morić\, Reciklart Festival\, Slovenia;\nDina Bajrektarević\, member of the organizing committee of BH. Pride March;\n\nModeration: Manneira Aja Solei\, programme coordinator at Ljubljana Pride Association. \n____ \nSince 2012\, Mateja Morić has been using non-formal education methodology in their work. They worked with adults who commited crime\, young people at risk and specifically coming from different marginalised groups\, and children. In the last 3 years\, they have created\, implemented and evaluated different workshops and trainings oriented around LGBTIQ+ community and other marginalised groups. They acquired diverse knowledge through participating and organising different activities that mobilise young people and change. Areas of interest: hate speech\, bullying\, LGBTIQ+\, restorative justice\, promotion of volunteering and solidarity. Passionate about diy culture and obsessively upcycling everything\, Mateja has been involved with Reciklart festival for the last few years. \nDina Bajrektarević is a long-time activist for the rights of LGBTI persons and the rights of persons with handicap. Currently engaged in the position of executive director of  Tuzla Open Center\, a local LGBTI organization that provides a range of services to the LGBTI community\, and a member of the BH organizing committee for Pride March. Through her previous engagement\, Dina dealt with youth policies\, anti-discriminatory policies and the protection of human rights through an intersectoral approach. \nBy joining protests\, Wendla was early on involved in the climate movement. Later they participated in youth politics and European youth conferences to raise awareness on climate change\, biodiversity loss and human rights\, with a particular focus on LGBTIQ+ rights. They were involved in youth projects that aimed to bring young people from diverse backgrounds in direct conversation with (political) decision  makers. After working with Ljubljana Pride for a year and working intensly on the intersection of LGBTIQ+ with environmental and sustainability topics\, Wendla started studying political and sustainability science. Right now they are organizing a Pride in Lüneburg\, Germany aiming to include a diverse program and trying to raise awareness on the intersections between Queerness and sustainability! \nThe activity is part of the project Sustainable Activism\, financed by the European Union. \nThe activity is co-financed by the Office of Youth RS. \n \n

SUMMARY:International Queer Solidarity – Building Resilience and Hope
DESCRIPTION:International Queer Solidarity – Building Resilience and Hope\nPanel discussion\n________________\nEvent will be held in English. \nLGBTIQ+ people and communities are experiencing multilayered oppression everywhere in the world: from the most extreme conditions like facing the death penalty\, to the daily microaggressions and exclusions. But we are also witnessing incredible strength\, resilience\, fight and hope from within the movements. This panel will look into ways of practicing international solidarity amongst and across LGBTIQ+ communities from global perspectives. We will explore the migrant queer perspective as well as the perspectives of LGBTIQ+ activists and movements from various regions beyond the EU. How do the »singular« identity groups build their practices of international solidarity? How do we build resilience and hope on a global scale as a movement unified in fighting common oppressions? \nGuests: \n\nSaleem Haddad\, writer and film director\, Palestine\, Lebanon\, UK;\nEka Tsereteli\, Director of  Women’s Initiatives Supporting Group (WISG)\, Georgia;\nHassan Dib – Queen of Virginity\, interdisciplinary artist\, Lebanon\, Germany;\n\nModeration: Jessica M. C. Lima\, Clube Safo\, Portugal. \n____ \nSaleem Haddad was born in Kuwait City to an Iraqi-German mother and a Palestinian-Lebanese father. His first novel\, Guapa\, was published in 2016\, receiving critical acclaim from the New Yorker\, The Guardian\, and others\, and was awarded both a Stonewall Honour and the 2017 Polari First Book Prize. He has also published a number of short stories\, including for the Palestinian sci-fi anthology Palestine +100. He also writes for film and television; his directorial debut\, Marco\, premiered in March 2019 and was nominated for the 2019 Iris Prize for Best British Short Film. His work has been supported by institutions such as Yaddo and the Literarisches Colloquium Berlin. He is currently based in Lisbon\, with roots in London\, Amman\, and Beirut. A Slovenian translation of Guapa was published in 2022 by Lambda. \nEka Tsereteli is an activist and women rights defender\, co-founder of feminist organization Women’s Initiatives Supporting Group (WISG). Eka’s feministic work is centered around transformative practices of organizational management\, arts and creative initiatives\, integration of multimedia and innovative technologies in activism. Since 2000\, she has authored and implemented different initiatives directed towards ensuring gender equality\, strengthening women and queer community and advocating their rights. She has organized multiple exhibitions and multimedia projects directed at changing public attitudes towards issues of queer community and women. Her work and experience in activism includes cooperation with different local and international organization both at executive positions and at the positions that bear responsibility for strategy development. Currently she is director of WISG. \nHassan Dib / Queen Of Virginity (they/them) is a Lebanese interdisciplinary artist based in Berlin. Hassan Dib’s work uses a mix of multimedia with elements of personal storytelling. It is often about their experience as an queer artist in exile\, their relationship with Lebanon and their struggles in Berlin as an immigrant and what it means to be away from “home”. They present the idea of home and belonging as vague and often lacking answers. Hassan obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre and Stage Acting at the Lebanese University in beirut where they were born and raised. Hassan emigrated to Berlin in 2017 and began a new solo practice as a drag artist. In 2019\, Queen of Virginit competed and won in Mx.Kotti\, gaining recognition and prominence in the Berlin art scene. Staying true to their acting roots\, Hassan continued to work in theater and film such as the stage productions Lila Lied\, Planet Lubunya\, Migraanten! and most recently\, Wohin. Additionally they were in the film Shall I Compare You to a Summer’s Day?\, which ran in the Berlinale Jury of 2022 and produced and starred in Lazarus. \nBesides performance\, Hassan is a founding member of Critical Queer Solidarity (CQS)\, Queer Arab Barty and HERA Collective. Through CQS\, Hassan organized and facilitated youth exchanges and drag workshops with funding from the European Union. Their curational work started with Queer Arab Barty and continues with Adira Party\, a queer Arabic-pop night\, which debuted in 2023.

SUMMARY:Resilience and Resistance – the LGBTIQ+ Community of Ukraine
DESCRIPTION:Resilience and Resistance – the LGBTIQ+ Community of Ukraine\nPanel discussion\n________________\nEvent will be held in English\, \nEurope has been deeply marked in the last year by a new war. And as always\, the most vulnerable social groups again face intersectional oppression and violence. The panel will explore the ways of resistance\, resilience and survival strategies through the perspectives of LGBTIQ+ activists and artists of Ukraine. We are interested in the support the international LGBTIQ+ community can offer to them. Last year\, Warsaw hosted the Kyiv Pride Parade as a sign of solidarity due to the war in Ukraine. Activists\, including the LGBTIQ+ community in Slovenia\, have mobilized in various ways and tried to help. After a year and a half there is still no peace. What happened during this time\, what were the most successful support actions and how can we continue to stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian LGBTIQ+ community? \nGuests: \n\nMaryna Shevtsova\, executive director at Equal Opportunities Platform\, Ukraine;\nKsenia Termasina; social media manager at Kyiv Pride\, Ukraine;\nSeymour Nezoriy\, visual artist and writer\, Ukraine;\nMitja Blažič\, volunteer\, coordinator of fundraising initiative for LGBT-shelters in Ukraine and Slovakia\, Slovenia.\n\nModeration: Julia Scharinger\, senior consultant – gender\, peace and conflict transformation\, trans:verse\, Austria. \n____ \nMaryna Shevtsova\nVisiting Professor and Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Sociology\, University of Ljubljana Executive director at NGO Equal Opportunities Platform\, Dnipro\, Ukraine Maryna’s research interests include LGBTQ activism in Central and Eastern Europe\, queer migration\, and anti-gender movements. She is the author of the book “LGBTI Politics and Value Change in Ukraine and Turkey. Exporting Europe?” (Routledge 2021) and currently works on the project “Untold Stories. Experiences and narratives of Ukrainian LGBTQ refugees in the context of Russia’s war on Ukraine.” In 2022\, she received the Emma Goldman Award for her engagement with feminist scholarship and human rights activism.  \nKsenia Termasina\, social media manager specialist at KyivPride. Ksenia has 8 years of experience in LGBTIQ activism in Ukraine. She started as a grassroots activist\, but now she works with  NGOs. At KyivPride\, she is  responsible for writing texts for various infomercials and working with social networks. She also takes part in the media visibility and representation work. \nSeymour Nezoriy is an artist\, illustrator\, printmaker\, and writer. Lives and works in Kyiv\, Ukraine. Nezoriy creates digital art when he has an image in his head that just needs to be brought to life\, paints when there are no words for what he’s feeling\, and does linocuts when he’s adventurous. His work focuses on queer history (or\, maybe\, historical queerness) and experiences of borderline identities. Born and raised in Zaporizhzhia\, both a heart of Ukrainian cossack freedom-seeking history and an industrial city\, suffering heavily from russian colonisation\, Nezoriy explores through his art what and how it means to be queer\, trans\, leftist\, and Ukrainian.\nHaving obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy\, Nezoriy got a nice long depression and existential crisis. For better or worse\, he realised that the childhood hobby of drawing was actually the only thing that still brought him joy – and that it’s what he wanted to do. Seymour got some academic drawing\, illustration\, and design classes under his belt\, as well as two years of studying at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv. To this experience\, he mostly owes his love for linocuts and his dislike for academic art.\nNezorij has participated in student exhibitions and has presented his work at several art events and public squares in Kyiv: I sobi i lyudiam (Strichkotkatska Fabryka\, 2022)\, Na chasi\, (Strichkotkatska Fabryka\, 2022)\, Svyato Kohannia\, (Re:Place\, 2022)\, Drujniy Prostir (KyivPride community centre\, 2023). In 2021 he also wrote\, illustrated and designed a queer fantasy picture book for young adults\, The Lawyer for the Fairy Folk. \nMitja Blažič is a veteran in the field of activism for LGBT human rights. He was strongly involved in the movement for equal rights for LGBT-persons and their families from 2000 on. He is a co-funder of the Association DIH\, worked as a program manager of Human Rights Education and of the LGBT-Youth Centre at the Non-Governmental Organization Informational Centre Legebitra and was coordinating  For all families! campaign during referendums 2012 and 2015. He graduated in Journalism at the Faculty of social science and was working as a journalist from 1994 till 2010 at the public Radio Slovenia. Currently he works as an Adviser to the Advocate for Monitoring at the Advocate of the principle of equality since 2020.
