SUMMARY:Workshop: Queer Activism for Climate Justice!
DESCRIPTION:If you believe climate justice has quite a lot to do with queer liberation and the other way around and you strive towards both in your work\, activism or everyday life\, you should mark 16th of July on your calendar! Ljubljana Pride will be hosting GenderCC\, a global network based in Berlin that advocates for gender and climate justice\, who will implement a workshop on the topic.\nThe workshop will be happening on Saturday\, July 16th between 10.00 and 14.30 at Dunajska 10.\n\nTo join the workshop\, register here: https://forms.gle/yYi9jQxG8jujoKpm9\n\nIn the workshop\, we will address the different ways in which people are affected by the consequences of climate change and by climate policy. Using practical examples\, we will show how climate justice is connected to LGBTIQ+ and gender justice – and how queer activism can further climate justice. You will be empowered and equipped with new knowledge which you can apply directly to your life\, work and activism.\n\nMore about GenderCC\, their work and values:\n“GenderCC is a global network based in Berlin that advocates for gender and climate justice and for gender equality to be a central aspect and outcome of climate action. Throughout our history\, we have developed common positions with other feminist and climate justice movements\, organisations and individuals. All our work is based on the principles of gender and climate justice from an intersectional perspective. Since the formal formation of the GenderCC network in 2008\, the gender and climate change community has been growing steadily. GenderCC remains one of the largest membership-based organisations working in this field.\nThe climate crisis concerns us all\, but we do not all contribute equally to it. And we are not all equally affected by its impacts. In most cases\, women*/ WLINTA* (women\, lesbians\, inter-\, non-binary\, trans-\, inter-persons) and people with lower incomes as well as people from the political global south behave in a less climate-damaging way\, but already suffer more from the consequences of the climate crisis. The same applies to climate change mitigation measures – these also have an unequal impact on people from different backgrounds. Experience also shows that certain climate protection measures are critical for LGBTIQ* people and can have a negative impact on them. The international network ‘GenderCC-Women for Climate Justice’ therefore calls for climate protection measures to be socially and gender-just and designed worldwide.”\n\nExplore GenderCC’s website to find out more: www.gendercc.net\n\nThe event will be in English\, however there will be Slovene speaking people present who can help with some translations if needed. The location is wheelchair accessible. There will be vegan lunch and soft drinks available. We also ask you to stay at home if you are experiencing any flu or Covid simptoms.\n\nDon’t forget to apply here: https://forms.gle/yYi9jQxG8jujoKpm9

SUMMARY:Pride Connects: Queer & Green Urban Places
DESCRIPTION:Where do you feel good\, open\, relaxed\, unjudged?\nWhat makes you feel safe? What makes a space safer?\n\nThere are many reasons that contribute to the feeling of secureness and openness – this time we will focus on the space\, and with your help\, try to find out how the physical surroundings shape our perception and mental wellbeing.\n\nEspecially for us\, young LGBTIQ+ people being out and queer in open spaces\, situations can quickly turn into insecure and intimidating. That’s why we need to create spaces in which we can feel safe\, are unconditionally accepted and can share our experiences. Those spaces create community and lead to self empowerment.\n\nOn next Pride Connects we want to change Ljubljana Pride’s surroundings into an even more green and safer space. Together we will take the first steps in planting an outside garden and building seatings out of old wood and pallets in our backyard. While crafting we will chat about the upcoming elections and compare parties programmes to our vision of greener and safer spaces.\n\nWe invite you to join us and share your ideas of what your favorite safe and green space would look like.\n\nThe event will take place on the 8th of November at 6 pm at Dunajska 10. The space is wheelchair accessible.\n\nThe event will be held in English.\n\nAt the event\, we will take into account all applicable measures to contain the epidemic.\n\n With ‘Pride Connects’\, we strive to connect the local LGBTIQ+ youth\, activists\, and all those interested in the political side of Pride(s) and LGBTIQ+ Human Rights Struggles in Slovenia and across the world.\n\nWe know that being an openly LGBTIQ+ person and existing in any public space is a political act\, and we know it is not easy – so we want to create a safe(r) space for all LGBTIQ+ people and a place of empowerment.

SUMMARY:Pride Connects: Civil disobedience (Part 2)
DESCRIPTION:Second meeting: 22. 03. 2022 \nTime: 18:00 – 20:00 \n“You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right.” \n\n\n Rosa Parks \n\n\n“Civil disobedience becomes a sacred duty when the state becomes lawless and corrupt.” \n\n\nMahatma Gandhi \n\n\n“We can’t save the world by playing by the rules\, because the rules have to be changed. Everything needs to change – and it has to start today.” \n\n\nGreta Thunberg \n\n\nFrom the Bus Boycott of Rosa Parks\, the sit-ins of the Civil Rights movement in America\, Mahatma Gandhi’s Salt March\, and most recent actions in the back lives matter movement and climate movement – civil disobedience has often played a crucial role in bending unjust and corrupt politics and society toward justice. What do these acts which we refer to as civil disobedience have in common? What distinguishes them from other forms of conscientious and political action? And how effective are they really?\n\nCivil disobedience is commonly understood to be a public\, non-violent breach of law intended to bring a change in law or current politics. (Rawls 1999\, 320).\n\nIn these times\, where the need is growing to set against unjustful\, corrupt and destructive politics\, we want to take the March to explore the topic of civil disobedience with all its facets.\nThe 8th of March is coming and so is Women’s* Day. The Event will be splitted in two parts – Tuesday the 8th of March we will go to the Women’s day protest. We will protest for women’s* rights at 16.00 at Kongresni square!\nThe second session\, happening on the 22th of March at 18.00 at Dunajska 10\, focuses on civil disobedience and its history\, its theory of six distinctive elements\, and your own experiences and questions.\nTo register send an email to wendla@ljubljanapride.org.\n\nThese events are primarily aimed at young LGBTIQ+ activists and our allies. They usually take place at Ljubljana Pride’s office\, at Dunajska cesta 10 in Ljubljana. The space is wheelchair accessible. The events will be held in English due to English speaking facilitators. However\, we can always help with translation and summing up in both languages\, if you feel more comfortable expressing yourself in Slovene.\n\nAt the events\, we will take into account all preventive measures to contain the epidemic\, such as wearing masks\, disinfecting and washing hands and maintaining mutual distance.

SUMMARY:Pride Connects: Civil disobedience (Part 1)
DESCRIPTION:First meeting:  07 and 08. 03. 2022 \nTime: Monday 18:00 – 20:00\, Tuesday 16:00 – 17:00 \n“You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right.” \n\n\n Rosa Parks \n\n\n“Civil disobedience becomes a sacred duty when the state becomes lawless and corrupt.” \n\n\nMahatma Gandhi \n\n\n“We can’t save the world by playing by the rules\, because the rules have to be changed. Everything needs to change – and it has to start today.” \n\n\nGreta Thunberg \n\n\n\nFrom the Bus Boycott of Rosa Parks\, the sit-ins of the Civil Rights movement in America\, Mahatma Gandhi’s Salt March\, and most recent actions in the back lives matter movement and climate movement – civil disobedience has often played a crucial role in bending unjust and corrupt politics and society toward justice.

SUMMARY:Pride Connects: I'm queer and the planet is dying! Should I vote? Part 2
DESCRIPTION:Im queer and the planet is dying! Should I vote?\nAbout the importance of voting in times of global warming and backlash of LGBTIQ+ rights \nThis year\, in 2022\, we will have triple elections in Slovenia – many young people will have the opportunity to vote and directly participate in our democracy for the first time. Among these\, many are LGBTIQ+. In this election\, we do not only have to worry about the development of LGBTIQ+ rights\, but also about how the new government will deal with the pressing issue of climate change and global warming. Fact is: LGBTIQ+ are among the first people in the world to be affected by the consequences of climate change. \nPride Connects will dedicate February to connecting these topics. Together we will find out why voting is essential as a young queer person\, why environmental activism and LGBTQ+ activism have a strong connection and – most importantly – why voting and political participation is not boring and dry\, but active and transformative! \nAt the first event\, we will discuss the connection between being queer\, environmentalist and a voter. We will analyze the three upcoming elections and their meaning and implications for politics and we will take a look at Glas ljudstva’s environment related demands. \nAt the second\, more practical event\, a sustainability activist will join Pride Connects so we can discuss questions and topics that arose in the previous event. Together we will design our own statements\, messages or quotes that will be used for further Youth Programme activities (hint: queer crafts!) \nTo register\, please send an email to wendla@ljubljanapride.org. \nThis event is aimed at young LGBTIQ+ people and will take place at Ljubljana Pride’s office\, at Dunajska cesta 10 in Ljubljana. The space is wheelchair accessible. The event will be held in English. \nAt the event\, we will take into account all preventive measures to contain the epidemic\, such as wearing masks\, disinfecting and washing hands and maintaining mutual distance. Event participants must meet the RVT (recovered / vaccinated / tested) requirement. \nThis event is organized within the Sustainable activism project and is financially supported by the European union.

SUMMARY:Pride Connects: “Do my clothes define me?” Part 2
DESCRIPTION:How do you dress and how does your style define you? \n  \nAccording to research\, people spend around 9.5 months of their lives choosing their clothes. In January we will add one whole month in which we analyze the topic of clothing and self expression through the way we dress. \nWe will start on 04.01.2022 with a practical meeting – where we will go to a second hand shop. With different methodologies we want to experience how clothes define ourselves and the way other people see and define us. How is the way we dress part of our gender expression? \nAt the following Pride Connects\, 18.01.2022\, we will reflect on our experiences and discover sustainable ways of clothing and shopping. \n  \nTo register\, please send an email to wendla@ljubljanapride.org. \nThis event is primarily aimed at young LGBTQ+ people and will take place at Ljubljana Pride’s office\, Dunajska cesta 10\, 1000 Ljubljana\, Slovenija. \nAt the event\, we will take into account all preventive measures to contain the epidemic\, such as wearing masks\, disinfecting and washing hands and maintaining mutual distance. Event participants must meet the RVT (recovered / vaccinated / tested) requirement. \nThe event will be held in English.

SUMMARY:Pride Connects: LGBTQ+ short movie “Run”
DESCRIPTION:“Run” – Short movie night and discussion  \nAt the Pride Connects on 7. 12. 2021 we will watch the short movie “Run”\, which has been created by LGBTIQ+ highschool girls. The producer will be present and share with us the process of the movie – from the first inspiration to the script writing\, filming and editing. Together we will analyze scenes of the movie and come up with creative  ideas on how a different end could look like. We open up the topic of being unaccepted as a young LGBTIQ+ person and name different possible outcomes than escaping by creating our own storyline. \nThis is the description of the movie:  \nTrina is a young girl who runs away from her family\, from society\, from herself. All her life she has been listening to how wrong it is if you don’t like the opposite gender. Katja moves into her street\, with whom she soon becomes more than just friends. Trina is divided between family and society and her own identity. The film shows the real situation of young people who are part of the LGBTIQ + community. \nTo register\, please send an email to wendla@ljubljanapride.org. \nThis event is primarily aimed at young LGBTIQ+ people and will take place at Ljubljana Pride’s office\, Dunajska cesta 10\, 1000 Ljubljana\, Slovenija. \nAt the event\, we will take into account all preventive measures to contain the epidemic\, such as wearing masks\, disinfecting and washing hands and maintaining mutual distance. SUMMARY:Pride Connects: My Gender Expression
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever thought about what gender expression means and how do you express yourself? Connected to the Transgender awareness week\, this Pride Connects offers the opportunity to reflect on your gender expression. We will use different methodologies to reflect on our gender expression in the context of social norms. We will explore our feelings and desires about gender expression through conversation and through artistic expression. Through that you might find out how satisfied you are with your own gender expression and how much you adapt it to social norms. \nThe workshop will be facilitated by our new ESC volunteer Filip Vurnik who is also the co-author of the publication Rainbow in the pocket. \nThe workshop will be held in English. \nYour workshop preparation and materials: \n\n\nbring     different objects that can be anything from sunglasses\, earphones\, to a candle\, and a notebook; \n\n\nbring     materials you like to work with\, like felt tip pens\, pencils\, plasticine. \n\n\n(If you can’t bring any of these things we will provide material!) \n\nTo register\, please send an email to wendla@ljubljanapride.org. \nThis event is primarily aimed at transgender\, non-binary and gender nonconforming young people and will take place at Ljubljana Pride’s office\, Dunajska cesta 10\, 1000 Ljubljana\, Slovenija. \nAt the event\, we will take into account all preventive measures to contain the epidemic\, such as wearing masks\, disinfecting and washing hands and maintaining mutual distance. Event participants must meet the RVT (recovered / vaccinated / tested) requirement. \n// \n\nWe are organizing the event within the youth project DecontRamination\, with the aim of raising awareness of important commemorative days and activating young activists.

SUMMARY:Online Conference: DEAR FUTURE VOLUNTEERS
DESCRIPTION:It is our pleasure to invite you to the online conference DEAR FUTURE VOLUNTEERS that will be held online on ZOOM platform from November 16 – 17\, 2021.  \n  \n  \nHence\, the conference will accelerate a space to examine different approaches while promoting the concept of inclusive organizations and their volunteering practices as tools for intercultural understanding and solidarity in Europe.  \n  \nThis way\, the event stands against xenophobia\, homophobia and racism in NGOs and local communities through creation of inclusive environments and respect of all peoples human rights.   \n  \nThe conference involves three (3) panels which will offer various perspectives to different questions such:  What are the democratic mechanisms that can support volunteering as a tool to build more inclusive societies and enable access to rights? What are the challenges and who bears the responsibility in today’s volunteering trends? What are the stories of global volunteers? What action have they been participating in? What changes and challenges volunteering brought to people’s lives? \n  \nYou can register for the conference by filling out the form. \n  \nAgenda:  \n  \nNovember 16\, 2021\, 12:30 – Volunteering for Inclusiveness \n  \nGlobal cooperation of volunteer organizations brought together many opportunities for young people all over the world. The European network of volunteer organisations for decades now have been promoting inclusiveness\, solidarity and cooperation while shedding light on specific issues as part of the volunteering causes. \n  \nNovember 16\, 2021\, 18:00 – There is no I in volunteer \n  \nFor centuries people have been sharing stories as a\, social and cultural means of sharing and preserving values\, hence the personal angle of volunteering has its own specific merit. People w \nwho have experienced volunteering practices both mid and long-term have testified that those experiences changed their lives or at least created significant memories that will last forever. Hearing stories of volunteers from all over the world has an enormous motivational effect as well\, as it provides today’s activists with a possible idea for tomorrow’s volunteering. \n  \nNovember 17\, 2021\, 10:00 – The Future of the (Inclusive) Volunteering  \n  \nWe will present the summary of recommendations on how volunteering could be (even) more accessible and inclusive. We will present and use those recommendations in the process of the Conference on The Future of Europe. The presentation of recommendations will be followed by a discussion with the decision-makers about the possibilities of their implementation and an open discussion with the participants.  \n  \nWorking language will be English. \n  \nThe conference DEAR FUTURE VOLUNTEERS is a part of the project “Volunteering as a tool for inclusive society” supported through the Europe for Citizens programme which aims to build intercultural understanding and solidarity through activities engaging local communities into practices of inclusive volunteerism.  \n  \nThe conference is organized by Youth Initiative for Human Rights (Serbia) in cooperation with  Pride Parade Association (Slovenia)\, Loesje (Germany)\, INAR (Ireland)\, and Youth Initiative for Human Rights (Croatia). \n  \nDeadline for applications: Nov 10\, 2021

SUMMARY:Pride Connects: How will you sleep tonight?
DESCRIPTION:On 10th of October we commemorated International Mental Health Day and International Homelessnes Day. \nIn the light of those events we will dedicate the next Pride Connects to those topics and connect them to the LGBTIQ+ community. During the event we will share our personal experiences\, be creative and open up conversations about homelesness and housing exclusion\, since they are still overlooked a lot of times. We will address the risks and problems of housing exclusion\, which is often connected with people in the LGBTIQ+ community. \nAlthough we can´t change the world within one evening\, we definitely can exchange our stories and experiences in a safe space we create ourselves. \n Who is it for? It is aimed at young LGBTIQ+ people facing precarious housing situations as well as everyone in the community who wants to learn about it/ address the issue. \n The workshop will be held in English. \n If you are experiencing a housing crisis or you are in need of a talk\, you can contact programme Sqvot that deals with housing exclusion and homelessness of LGBTIQ+ youth and offers support\, short-term crisis accommodations and works on prevention. Write to sqvot@ljubljanapride.org for more information. \n__________________________________________________________________________ \n With ‘Pride Connects’\, we strive to connect the local LGBTIQ+ youth\, activists\, and all those interested in the political side of Pride(s) and LGBTIQ+ Human Rights Struggles in Slovenia and across the world. \nWe know that being an openly LGBTIQ+ person and existing in any public space is a political act\, and we know it is not easy – so we want to create a safe(r) space for all LGBTIQ+ people and a place of empowerment.
