SUMMARY:Online Conference: DEAR FUTURE VOLUNTEERS
DESCRIPTION:It is our pleasure to invite you to the online conference DEAR FUTURE VOLUNTEERS that will be held online on ZOOM platform from November 16 – 17\, 2021.  \n  \n  \nHence\, the conference will accelerate a space to examine different approaches while promoting the concept of inclusive organizations and their volunteering practices as tools for intercultural understanding and solidarity in Europe.  \n  \nThis way\, the event stands against xenophobia\, homophobia and racism in NGOs and local communities through creation of inclusive environments and respect of all peoples human rights.   \n  \nThe conference involves three (3) panels which will offer various perspectives to different questions such:  What are the democratic mechanisms that can support volunteering as a tool to build more inclusive societies and enable access to rights? What are the challenges and who bears the responsibility in today’s volunteering trends? What are the stories of global volunteers? What action have they been participating in? What changes and challenges volunteering brought to people’s lives? \n  \nYou can register for the conference by filling out the form. \n  \nAgenda:  \n  \nNovember 16\, 2021\, 12:30 – Volunteering for Inclusiveness \n  \nGlobal cooperation of volunteer organizations brought together many opportunities for young people all over the world. The European network of volunteer organisations for decades now have been promoting inclusiveness\, solidarity and cooperation while shedding light on specific issues as part of the volunteering causes. \n  \nNovember 16\, 2021\, 18:00 – There is no I in volunteer \n  \nFor centuries people have been sharing stories as a\, social and cultural means of sharing and preserving values\, hence the personal angle of volunteering has its own specific merit. People w \nwho have experienced volunteering practices both mid and long-term have testified that those experiences changed their lives or at least created significant memories that will last forever. Hearing stories of volunteers from all over the world has an enormous motivational effect as well\, as it provides today’s activists with a possible idea for tomorrow’s volunteering. \n  \nNovember 17\, 2021\, 10:00 – The Future of the (Inclusive) Volunteering  \n  \nWe will present the summary of recommendations on how volunteering could be (even) more accessible and inclusive. We will present and use those recommendations in the process of the Conference on The Future of Europe. The presentation of recommendations will be followed by a discussion with the decision-makers about the possibilities of their implementation and an open discussion with the participants.  \n  \nWorking language will be English. \n  \nThe conference DEAR FUTURE VOLUNTEERS is a part of the project “Volunteering as a tool for inclusive society” supported through the Europe for Citizens programme which aims to build intercultural understanding and solidarity through activities engaging local communities into practices of inclusive volunteerism.  \n  \nThe conference is organized by Youth Initiative for Human Rights (Serbia) in cooperation with  Pride Parade Association (Slovenia)\, Loesje (Germany)\, INAR (Ireland)\, and Youth Initiative for Human Rights (Croatia). \n  \nDeadline for applications: Nov 10\, 2021

SUMMARY:Pride Connects: How will you sleep tonight?
DESCRIPTION:On 10th of October we commemorated International Mental Health Day and International Homelessnes Day. \nIn the light of those events we will dedicate the next Pride Connects to those topics and connect them to the LGBTIQ+ community. During the event we will share our personal experiences\, be creative and open up conversations about homelesness and housing exclusion\, since they are still overlooked a lot of times. We will address the risks and problems of housing exclusion\, which is often connected with people in the LGBTIQ+ community. \nAlthough we can´t change the world within one evening\, we definitely can exchange our stories and experiences in a safe space we create ourselves. \n Who is it for? It is aimed at young LGBTIQ+ people facing precarious housing situations as well as everyone in the community who wants to learn about it/ address the issue. \n The workshop will be held in English. \n If you are experiencing a housing crisis or you are in need of a talk\, you can contact programme Sqvot that deals with housing exclusion and homelessness of LGBTIQ+ youth and offers support\, short-term crisis accommodations and works on prevention. Write to sqvot@ljubljanapride.org for more information. \n__________________________________________________________________________ \n With ‘Pride Connects’\, we strive to connect the local LGBTIQ+ youth\, activists\, and all those interested in the political side of Pride(s) and LGBTIQ+ Human Rights Struggles in Slovenia and across the world. \nWe know that being an openly LGBTIQ+ person and existing in any public space is a political act\, and we know it is not easy – so we want to create a safe(r) space for all LGBTIQ+ people and a place of empowerment.

SUMMARY:PRIDE CONNECTS: Trans Day of Visibility - Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Pride Connects is organising a writing workshop aimed at trans* folk. This event will take place at 16:00 – 18:00\, on March 23rd 2021\, at a for-now-undisclosed live location. To register for this event\, please send an email to  asja@ljubljanapride.org.\n\nTo commemorate this year’s Trans Day of Visibility\, Pride Connects is hosting a writing workshop aimed at trans* folk\, with a vision to bring the trans community together in an opportunity to creatively express ourselves regardless of our skills or previous experiences with writing. We believe that it is important to create trans*-only spaces where we can feel safe(r) exploring our creativity and its political potentials.\n\nIn a world divided into subjects – those that have the right to define their own reality – and objects – those whose reality is defined by their relationship to the subjects – \, the act of writing can be an act of becoming one’s own narrator\, author and authority on one’s own reality and history. In this writing workshop\, we will look at the practice of autoethnographic writing as an example of a method of reclaiming agency over representations of one’s own reality. Autoethnography at its very core defies the division into categories of subject and object of writing and instead embraces a fluidity and a commitment to refiguring normative discourses. Taking lessons from this practice\, we will look at how we can use aspects of this methodology in making our own contribution to raising visibility of the local trans community.\n\nInspired by stories of Koroska Pride’s outdoor sunrise poetry readings and a desire to celebrate the beginning of Spring\, we have decided to move this workshop into the IRL sphere and meet at a for-now-undisclosed (if weather permits) outdoor location somewhere in Rožnik to spend a sunset writing together\, taking the narratives about us in our own hands and feeling again as a part of our city.\n\nThe facilitation of this event will happen in English\, although participants are encouraged to write in any language they feel most comfortable with. We are organizing the event within the youth project DecontRamination\, with the aim of raising awareness of important commemorative days and activating young activists.\n\n(We use an asterisk at the end of “trans” as a shorthand to refer to a variety of identities that are diverse but share the common denominator of not being a cisgender man or cisgender woman. Trans* is explicitly inclusive of non-binary\, agender\, genderqueer\, gender fluid\, third gender\, and other non-cisgender identities.)\n_________________________\n With ‘Pride Connects’\, we strive to connect the local LGBTIQ+ youth\, activists\, and all those interested in the political side of Pride(s) and LGBTIQ+ Human Rights Struggles in Slovenia and across the world. We know that being an openly LGBTIQ+ person and existing in any public space is a political act\, and we know it is not easy – so we want to create a safe(r) space for all LGBTIQ+ people and a place of empowerment.

SUMMARY:PRIDE CONNECTS: Accountability and Shame
DESCRIPTION:Pride Connects is organising a workshop on the topic of accountability and shame.\n\nThis event will take place online on Tuesday\, 23rd of February\, from 6 to 8pm. To register\, please send an email to asja@ljubljanapride.org.\n\nThe past two Pride Connects events we have been talking about the ways in which we in the queer and activist communities currently approach conflict and thinking about how we can make those ways less harmful both to the individuals involved and the community as a whole. In this process\, we have looked at what we can learn from transformative justice practices and what conditions might be necessary to be ensured in order to build healthier communities. In continuing this vein of inquiry\, the upcoming Pride Connects will look at the affect of shame: what is it\, how we feel it\, what to do about it.\nTransformative justice practitioners often single out shame as one of the biggest obstacles to taking accountability. When we are told that we have done something that is not in alignment with our values and sense of self\, we often enter into a shame spiral that\, on a physiological level\, prevents the nuanced and attentive thinking that is required in an accountability and repair process. This is why the shame-based tactics we often see used in order to demand accountability from someone do not work; as Mia Mingus and others often point out\, “We need to move away from ‘holding people accountable’ and instead support people to proactively take accountability for themselves.”\n\nIn this workshop\, we want to take a small step in the direction of creating conditions for proactive accountability by trying to educate ourselves on how we\, both as people who have been harmed and as people who have harmed others\, can be affected by shame\, how to move through the feeling of it and what place it has or doesn’t have within our conflict-resolution strategies.\n\nThis event will be in English and is open to anyone with an interest in the topic\, regardless of whether you have attended the previous Pride Connects events.\n__________________________\nWith ‘Pride Connects’\, we strive to connect the local LGBTIQ+ youth\, activists\, and all those interested in the political side of Pride(s) and LGBTIQ+ Human Rights Struggles in Slovenia and across the world. We know that being an openly LGBTIQ+ person and existing in any public space is a political act\, and we know it is not easy – so we want to create a safe(r) space for all LGBTIQ+ people and a place of empowerment.

SUMMARY:PRIDE CONNECTS: Transformative Justice Discussion Group
DESCRIPTION:Pride Connects is organising a discussion group on the topic of transformative justice on February 9th\, 6-8pm.\n\nTo register\, please send an email to  asja@ljubljanapride.org.\n\nPreviously on Pride Connects…\n\nLast week at our PRIDE CONNECTS: “Why Are Queer People So Mean To Each Other?” Reading & Discussion Group\, we talked about the ways in which our communities could be improved in terms of how we deal with disagreements\, misunderstandings and conflicts. In this upcoming discussion group\, we wish to create space to take those conversations further and in the direction of practical tools for how to make our communities and movements more resilient.\n\nIn this discussion group we will look at some texts and videos by prominent thinkers on- and practitioners of transformative justice\, and we will think together about how to implement some of their work within our own contexts. This will not be the two hours in which we solve all that is difficult within queer and activist communities – but it will hopefully offer us an introduction to some concepts and tools from transformative justice that we can take with us into our organising and our everyday lives.\n\nIt is not neccesary to have participated in the previous event in order to join this one.\n\nThe event will take place in English.\n_____________________________________\nWith ‘Pride Connects’\, we strive to connect the local LGBTIQ+ youth\, activists\, and all those interested in the political side of Pride(s) and LGBTIQ+ Human Rights Struggles in Slovenia and across the world.\n\nWe know that being an openly LGBTIQ+ person and existing in any public space is a political act\, and we know it is not easy – so we want to create a safe(r) space for all LGBTIQ+ people and a place of empowerment.

SUMMARY:PRIDE CONNECTS: “Why Are Queer People So Mean To Each Other?” Reading & Discussion Group
DESCRIPTION:Pride Connects is organising a reading and discussion group titled “Why Are Queer People So Mean To Each Other?” on January 26th\, 6-8pm.\nTo register\, please send an email to  asja@ljubljanapride.org.\n\nIt’s hard to find someone who doesn’t enjoy the occasional sprinkle (or outburst) of queer/activist drama in our communities – it keeps things interesting and the stories flowing. One can’t deny\, however\, that the conflicts we have and how we handle them are not always the most conducive to achieving our common goals or the most aligned with our (individual or collective) political values. Any close-knit community or group is bound to experience some turbulence occasionally\, but when interpersonal disagreements and grievances get in the way of us doing our work\, it is good to ask the question: why are we so mean to each other?\n\n“Why Are Queer People So Mean To Each Other” is the title of an article by the Canadian trans writer and performer Kai Cheng Thom. In her writing\, Thom reflects on how the (collective) trauma queer folks internalise through the sheer fact of existing in a fundamentally hostile world finds its way into our interactions within our communities. This can result in less than helpful ways of approaching conflict-resolution\, instances of which can leave our communities deeply wounded and divided.\nIn the upcoming Pride Connects\, we will take Thom’s writing as the starting point to look for resonances of this trauma-thinking in our own communities\, and to try to start thinking about ways to do conflict differently. This way\, we can learn how to build stronger communal ties and a sturdier movement for social change.\n\nIt is not necessary to read the text in advance to participate in the reading and discussion group; however\, if you are curious\, you can find it at the following link:\nhttps://www.dailyxtra.com/why-are-queer-people-so-mean-to…\nThe event will take place in English.\n_____________________________________\n With ‘Pride Connects’\, we strive to connect the local LGBTIQ+ youth\, activists\, and all those interested in the political side of Pride(s) and LGBTIQ+ Human Rights Struggles in Slovenia and across the world.\n\nWe know that being an openly LGBTIQ+ person and existing in any public space is a political act\, and we know it is not easy – so we want to create a safe(r) space for all LGBTIQ+ people and a place of empowerment.

SUMMARY:PRIDE CONNECTS: Non-Monogamy Support Group
DESCRIPTION:Pride Connects is organising a Non-Monogamy Peer-to-Peer Support Group with the topic of jealousy.\n\nThis event will take place on Tuesday\, 12th January\, from 18:00 to 20:00. To register\, please send an email to  asja@ljubljanapride.org.\n\nIt sometimes feels like jealousy is the most talked-about thing when it comes to thinking about organising our relationships in non-monogamous ways. Yet\, somehow\, it seems that the literature on it doesn’t always succeed in addressing the full extent of the awfulness it can bring with it and it often feels that the remedies it offers don’t go beyond a kind of independent self-reliance that doesn’t work for everybody. As queer people and as people with multiple intersecting marginalised identities\, we can often face obstacles that are different from those addressed in the mainstream discussions on non-monogamy. This peer-to-peer support group aims to create a space for us to vent\, complain\, rage\, offer validation\, and try to share and come up with new ways of dealing with these hard feelings.\nThis event is aimed at\, though not exclusive to\, people who have experience or interest in non-monogamy. The topic will\, however\, be approached from a non-monogamy perspective.\n\nThe event will be in English.\n______________________________\nWith ‘Pride Connects’\, we strive to connect the local LGBTIQ+ youth\, activists\, and all those interested in the political side of Pride(s) and LGBTIQ+ Human Rights Struggles in Slovenia and across the world.\nWe know that being an openly LGBTIQ+ person and existing in any public space is a political act\, and we know it is not easy – so we want to create a safe(r) space for all LGBTIQ+ people and a place of empowerment.

DESCRIPTION:Organised by: Ljubljana Pride Association \nLanguage: English \n  \n  \nThe event is going to take place in Cirkulacija 2 (Podhod Ajdovščina) on 24th of September at 7PM and 8PM. \n  \n Due to the restriction of gathering registration to the event is desirable. You can apply HERE . \n  \nAbout Avraam Vrohidis: \nAvraam is a proud fat queer activist and performer from Greece. He has studied Social Work and he currently works with children with different abilities. He is the founder of a greek fat positive collective called “Fat Unicorns”. His everyday activity is to inspire people\, make them trust and love their body and express themselves no matter what. His greatest wish is to empower all those queer and fat teenagers out there\, who are confronted with discrimination and oppression by the society at large. As a result of this\, Avraam created the project “QHologram 2070: Museum of Diversity” and aims to travel with it all around Europe and use it to educate and sensitize a wide variety of different people. \n  \nAbout the project: \nThe museum will be set up in the year 2070 in a utopian future where discrimination and inequality between different social groups don’t exist anymore. It will show what the attitude of the society towards marginalized groups was like in 2020. \n  \nIt is an imaginary vision of the world 50 years from now where there is no room for any kind of discrimination. It represents the concept of how vulnerable social groups were treated back in 2020 such as homophobia\, transphobia\, fatphobia\, discrimination based on physical characteristics\, mental health\, racism\, sexism\, etc.  \n  \nThe hostess will welcome museum visitors and guide them around the museum. Through the spaces\, visitors will have the chance to experience a tour that narrates the situation of minority groups “back in 2020”. \n  \nSpace will be divided into ssmaller rooms and each room will tell a story of a certain topic that is related to discrimination\, bullying\, oppression\, abuse\, or violence that our performers have experienced so far\, based on who they are.  \n  \nPerformers: \nFilip Vurnik\, Neja Kolbl\, Lan Aidan\, Tom Veber\, Petra HD \n  \nIf you would like to be part of this story and join the event\, we kindly ask you to fill out an application form HERE. \n  \nAvraam Vrohidis (GR) in collaboration with Ljubljana Pride and Cirkulacija 2. \n  \n———————————————- \n  \nIMPORTANT! \n  \n\nBring your own mask. Keep a distance of 1\,5 m from other participants of the activity.\nDisinfecting your hands is OBLIGATORY before entering and after exiting the premises. \nIf you join the event later\, you will have to fill in your data on a prepared list which will be available at the event.\n\n  \nAll data from the application and registration form are gathered for the purposes of project reporting and in accordance with the Ordinance amending the Ordinance on the temporary general restriction or prohibition of gathering of people in the Republic of Slovenia. Access to the data will be provided to the National Institute for Public Health upon request.  \n  \nProject is co-financed by the Municipality of Ljubljana (MOL).

SUMMARY:Visegrad's Authoritarians: Back to the Future?
DESCRIPTION: If you would like to hear first hand the experiences from LGBT activists from Poland and Hungary\, please join us for the\nlive-streamed  discussion on our FB page.\n\nGuest speakers:\n Marianna Szczygielska\n Viktória Radványi\n Rémy Bonny\nModerated by:\n Simona Muršec\,  Ljubljana Pride Association\n\n“Only one day after the Polish National Electoral Commission announced the incumbent president Andrzej Duda as the winner of the close runoff elections\, a queer activist was arrested in Warsaw. According to witnesses\, Margot’s arrest looked more like a kidnapping because ununiformed police officers handcuffed her with the use of force and dragged her out of her friend’s flat. She is part of a queer collective “Stop Bzdurom” (Stop the Bullshit) that uses direct action to counter the persistent disinformation campaign targeting the LGBTQ community\, sexual education\, and reproductive justice. In the past few years\, homophobic and transphobic hate speech became a standard political resource in a country that has gained the dishonorable status of the most homophobic in the European Union. Queers have become public enemy number one in Poland.” Marianna Szczygielska\n\n What does the current Polish anti-LGBT propaganda and systemic violence have to do with Victor Orban’s repression of NGO’s in Hungary and the financial support for Nova24 in Slovenia?\n Why are LGBT topics the fundamental scapegoat and state enemy No.1?\n How does all this impact the lives of the LGBT communities and in particular the activists?\n How do we engage in actions of solidarity to support our sister LGBT movement across the Visegrad Group?

Undoubtedly\, the greatest advancement has been made in the field of same-sex partnerships\, where we today have the Civil Unions Act\, which has improved the legal situation for same-sex couples. With our speakers\, we will discuss the challenges we face and what are the ways to effectively address them.\nThe round table will be held in Slovenian. \nThe names of the speakers will be published later. \n  \n7:00 pm -8: 00 pm – LGBTI Equality – Challenges Abroad and on International Stage\nAt the round table\, we will talk to the ambassadors and / or deputies about the situation and development of the rights of LGBTI people in their countries and about the possibilities of addressing LGBTI issues on the international stage.\nThe round table will be held in English. \nThe names of the speakers will be published later. \nAfter discussions there will be a virtual multimedia exhibition 20 years of Pride parade in Ljubljana. \n  \nDue to the measures taken by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia to limit the spread of coronavirus\, registration is mandatory.
