SUMMARY:Cultural Appropriation - Public Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Ljubljana Pride is proud to invite you to a public discussion on cultural appropriation\, facilitated by a dear friend and colleague Amel Yacef\, originally from Algeria\, who has been working in the youth and community sector in Ireland for almost 20 years. She is a Muslim feminist and anti-racist who believes in transformative justice and its values\, and together with us\, she will take us through an exploration of the concept of cultural appropriation. \n– On whose terms do we celebrate and honour the cultures of others?\n– What is this line we cross when appropriating someone else’s culture?\n– How can we identify and challenge racism when it takes the form of cultural practice? \nIf you are interested to talk through these questions\, then join us on Thursday\, 3rd October in Ljubljana Pride office. \nThe event will be held in English. \nThis event is organised with the financial support of the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Commission\, as Amel is currently engaged in a job shadowing project at Ljubljana Pride.
