DESCRIPTION:Pride connects invites you to the screening of the documentary Breaking Free\, by the filmmaker and gay rights activist Sridhar Rangayan. The documentary makes visible the human rights violations faced by the LGBTIQ community in India due to the colonial law Section 377 and homophobic social mores of India’s patriarchal society. \nWhile homosexuality was decriminalized in 2009\, the Supreme Court reversed that decision in 2013. Breaking Free provides many personal testimonies that the law is being misused by police and blackmailers to exhort\, torture and rape LGBTIQ people. \nAfter the screening\, we invite you to an informal discussion circle. \nSee you at 19h! \nWith ‘PRIDE CONNECTS’\, we strive to connect the local LGBTIQ+ youth\, activists\, and all those interested in the political side of Pride(s) and LGBTIQ+ Human Rights Struggles in Slovenia and across the world. We know that being an openly LGBTIQ+ person and walking down any public space is a political act\, and we know it is not easy – so we want to create a safe(r) space for all LGBTIQ+ people and a place of empowerment.
