Visibility of LGBTIQ+ people is of the utmost importance both for individuals and for the community as a whole, and being a part of the LGBTIQ+ community can give us a sense of belonging, it feels like we are seen, like we are stronger together. Having similar challenges and experiences makes it easier for us to support and encourage each other, which is especially important when we feel lonely and overlooked.
The community events that we organise at SQVOT serve as visible symbols of our existence and the importance of community for the individual. The same goes for the festival version of our SQVOT Living Room, where we will be making products in the colours of the community to support our visibility, while reflecting on what visibility and belonging to the LGBTIQ+ community mean to each and every one of us. We will translate our thoughts and creativity into small indicators of our community, which we will then proudly wear to the Parade a week later.
