The project aims to address social and systemic barriers to tackling peer violence based on sexual orientation, gender identity and/or gender expression in schools.

OBJECTIVES

• To enable LGBTIQ+ organisations to carry out activities in school environments, with a focus on addressing peer violence.
• To address peer violence based on sexual orientation and/or gender identity in school environments.
• To empower LGBTIQ+ organisations and schools to respond to pressures and resistance when carrying out activities addressing LGBTIQ+ topics in school environments.

KEY ACTIVITIES

• Educational workshops and exhibitions for young people, teaching staff and parents at Gimnazija Ptuj.
• Training for young LGBTIQ+ people and trainers from the organisation’s pool in storytelling, addressing peer violence, delivering educational activities, advocacy and public speaking, and developing recommendations.
• Study visits to Norway and Slovenia.
• Establishing a network of schools in Slovenia that implement or are planning to implement LGBTIQ+ content.
• An analysis of the situation and needs of schools in Slovenia regarding the prevention and addressing of peer violence in school environments.
• Presenting the shared needs and recommendations of schools and LGBTIQ+ organisations to the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport (MIZŠ).

WHO IS IT FOR?

• Young LGBTIQ+ people with intersecting identities who experience peer violence
  → They will be empowered to share their experiences through storytelling, participate in project activities in schools and advocate for their needs.
• Young people (pupils and students), teaching staff and parents at Gimnazija Ptuj
  → They will gain greater awareness and be equipped with methods for addressing peer violence.
• Schools and LGBTIQ+ organisations in Slovenia
  → Through a needs assessment, situation analysis and strategic guidelines for action, they will begin to address the challenges of responding to resistance against their work on LGBTIQ+ topics.

Three organisations are involved in the project: Društvo Parada ponosa as the lead applicant, and the LGBT organisation Kvir mladina from Norway and Gimnazija Ptuj from Slovenia as project partners.
