Ljubljana Pride is proud to invite you to a public discussion on cultural appropriation, facilitated by a dear friend and colleague Amel Yacef, originally from Algeria, who has been working in the youth and community sector in Ireland for almost 20 years. She is a Muslim feminist and anti-racist who believes in transformative justice and its values, and together with us, she will take us through an exploration of the concept of cultural appropriation.

– On whose terms do we celebrate and honour the cultures of others?
– What is this line we cross when appropriating someone else’s culture?
– How can we identify and challenge racism when it takes the form of cultural practice?

This event is organised with the financial support of the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Commission, as Amel is currently engaged in a job shadowing project at Ljubljana Pride. We are especially excited to have her with us for the next couple of weeks as Amel has been a great support when Ljubljana Pride decided to join ENAR Europe, where she served as the Chair.
