Embarking on a six-month volunteering experience with Ljubljana Pride Association has been an incredibly enriching and transformative journey. From the moment I joined the team, I was immersed in a dynamic and passionate community dedicated to advocating for LGBTQ+ rights and fostering an inclusive society.
My role as a volunteer involved a wide range of activities, from supporting administrative and logistical aspects of the Pride Festival, to filming and photographing the events. One of the most rewarding aspects of my experience was working closely with a diverse group of volunteers and activists.
The preparation for the Pride Festival itself was an intense but exhilarating process. I was involved in the video team and also took care of various administrative tasks for the groups of international guests visiting us in Ljubljana. One of the most profound lessons I learned during this experience was the power of resilience and empathy. Working on such a large-scale event came with its challenges, from logistical hurdles to moments of doubt. However, I developed a deeper understanding of the complexities of organizing a major event and the importance of perseverance and adaptability.
Reflecting on my six months with the Ljubljana Pride Association, I am grateful for the experience. It has not only deepened my understanding of LGBTQ+ issues but also equipped me with valuable skills in filming, teamwork, and activism. More importantly, it has connected me with a network of passionate individuals who are committed to making a difference.
