After the bout during Pride Festival in June, we are joining forces with Roller Derby Ljubljana once again and watching the movie Whip It.

Whip It (2009) is a comedy-drama about a girl that doesn’t feel understood in her small town. All of a sudden she finds out about roller derby – a women’s* contact sport on quad skates, which is often associated with the LGBTIQ+ community. She joins a team and her life changed completely since she finally finds people like her and feels accepted. The movie is fun even though it doesn’t show a totally realistic representation of the sport and the LGBTIQ+ themes are only in the subtext.

After the movie, there will be time to hang out and talk to the members of Roller Derby Ljubljana about the movie, roller derby, the Slovenian team and anything you might be interested to find out.
