Hate culture can be found in all walks of life, and school and youth environments are no exception.

As teachers, youth workers, youth leaders, trainers, activists and professionals, we have not only the power but also the responsibility to respond to hate speech among young people. All “jokes”, comments where young people merely “repeat what they heard at home” or “are not being serious” reinforce the social inequalities emanating from systems of oppression.

Often, however, we cannot respond to hatred because we are concerned about our main responsibility to deliver an activity. Or sometimes, we just don’t know how.

The workshop will address the challenges of recognizing, addressing and transforming hate speech.

We will share and explore strategies for overcoming hate speech through the use of transformative practices designed not only to prevent the use of hate speech in a particular environment, but to initiate a transformation process to overcome hate.

The workshop is for everyone who works with young people.

The workshop is conducted in cooperation with the Zagorje Youth Center on Cesta on 9 August 48 in Zagorje ob Savi. The location offers free parking. Unfortunately the venue is not wheelchair accessible.

The workshop is part of the Erasmus + Youth in Action program and is a dissemination workshop for the Transformation of Hate Speech project in a youth environment.
