Overcoming the Culture of Hate – ACF Project (2021-2023)
The purpose of the project is to eliminate societal and systemic barriers to addressing bullying based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and/or gender expression in schools.
OBJECTIVES:
- Facilitate access to LGBTIQ+ organizations to conduct activities within the school environment with an emphasis on addressing peer violence.
- Address peer violence based on sexual orientation and/or gender identity in the school environment.
- Empower LGBTIQ+ organizations and schools to cope with pressures when implementing activities related to LGBTIQ+ content in the school environment.
KEY ACTIVITIES:
- Educational workshops and exhibitions for young people, educators, and parents (at Gimnazija Ptuj).
- Training for young LGBTIQ+ individuals and trainers from the association (in the fields of storytelling, addressing peer violence, conducting educational activities, advocacy, public speaking, and policy recommendations).
- Study visits to Norway and within Slovenia.
- Establishing a network of schools in Slovenia that are or will implement LGBTIQ+ content.
- Analysis of the situation and needs of schools in Slovenia regarding addressing peer violence in the school environment.
- Presentation of common needs and recommendations of schools and LGBTIQ+ organizations to the Ministry of Education, Science, and Sport (MIZŠ).
TARGET AUDIENCE:
- Young LGBTIQ+ individuals with intersecting identities experiencing peer violence (empowered to share their experiences through storytelling, implementing project activities in the field, advocating for their needs).
- Young students, teachers, and parents (at Gimnazija Ptuj) who will become more informed and equipped with methods to address peer violence.
- Schools and LGBTIQ+ organizations in Slovenia (beginning to address the challenge of dealing with resistance to their work in the field of LGBTIQ+ content through a review of needs, situation analysis, and strategic guidance).

Three organizations are involved in the project: Ljubljana Pride Association as the applicant, LGBT organization Kvir mladina from Norway, and Gimnazija Ptuj from Slovenia as partners.
The project is funded by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA) and Norway 2014-2021, as part of the Active Citizens Fund program in Slovenia.
